Cheese & Onion Pie

  • 210g plain wholemeal flour
  • 70g butter
  • pinch of salt
  • 50ml water
  • 2 medium sized onions
  • 200g mature cheddar cheese

Mix the flour, butter, salt and water to make the pastry. Roll out half of it using an old Newcastle Brown Ale bottle (or a rolling pin if you have one ) and line a greased baking tin.

Chop the onions and put them in the tin followed by a layer of sliced cheese. Finally roll out the remaining plastry to make the pie crust and paint it with milk so that it gets a nice crust on it.

20 minutes in a preheated oven at 190°C (gas mark something or other) ought to do the trick as far as cooking is concerned.
